Under the motto "ICT goes mobile", the 40th asut Seminar took place on the 26th of June 2014 at the Kursaal in Bern. Also the iimt was present at this event and numerous students and alumni attended the seminar.
After the opening speech by the president Peter Grütter, the Federal Councilor Evelyn Widmer-Schlumpf presented the tasks of the Federal Council concerning the future of ICT.
Urs Schäppi, CEO Swisscom, spoke about "digital natives", who approach decisions differently than the current leading generation, about mobile data usage which continues to increase, but also about the three main areas, that apply to the management of Swisscom.
Andreas Meyer, CEO SBB, presented the mobile services for SBB customers, which should be massively expanded in the future.
During the panel discussion, several business leaders spoke about new challenges for users and customers: Jürg Bloch, CIO Manor, Martin Bürki, Managing Director Ericsson Switzerland, Christian Keller, until now General Manager IBM Schweiz and then General Manager Global Technology Services DACH IMT, Manuel P. Nappo, Responsible Service Social Media Management at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, and Fredy Schwyter, Dipl. Ing. HTL/STV, CISA, CISM, CEO Advanced Telematic Research.
The afternoon programme was opened by two surprise guests who presented their start-up.
Daniel Borel, co-founder of Logitech, then spoke on the theme: "From PC to Mobile to Internet of Things" and also presented the latest Logitech products.
The second panel discussion focused on the issue: "Politics and society: what conditions does ICT need in the future?". The following speakers have been invited: Edith Graf-Litscher, National Councillor, Raymond Loretan, Chairman SRG SSR, Dr. Peter de Haan, Team Leader Ernst Basler + Partner and professor at the ETH Zurich, Philipp Metzger, Director of the Federal Office of Communications, and Hanspeter Thür, Federal Commissioner for data protection and transparency.
The programme ended with the presentation of Dr. h.c. Beat Kappeler, columnist for the NZZ am Sonntag and author. The question: "The world of new networks - Cornucopia or yoke?” was reviewed and analysed from different angles.
As a partner of asut, the iimt had the opportunity to present its offer in further education (Executive MBA, Executive Diploma and Executive CAS in ICT management) as well as research programmes in this field through a presentation stand. In addition to the interesting presentations, networking with decision makers from the ICT sector was a central point.
